Upon thus discovering Chiang's duplicity, they

both lost no time in getting away from Nanking;

Feng Yu- hsiang on some excuse left for the north and Li Tsung-jên went to Shanghai.

8. I still hope against hope that civil war between Kwangtung and Kwangsi may be avoided:

but I find that outlook of prominent Chinese
